Divine Feminine
I want to age like the trees, free and naturally.
This piece I created for Evie Harris's recent work 'Divine Feminine' a zine made by women on women, view at the full zine here.
'This piece was created after a conversation with my mum, who was describing to me the difficulties of aging as a woman in our society; the pressure to maintain ‘youthful’ skin, hair and body etc. In discussion, we were consumed with the thought that in our society so much of a woman’s worth is put down to her looks, and therefore her abilities, wisdom and creative potential can be overshadowed by never ending thoughts about image and perception. To combat this, we decided to collaborate with the trees, beings which aren’t forced to grow or age in any particular way and are still appreciated for their natural beauty. A recent project of mine ‘The Trees Talk to All of Us’ has given me a new perspective on the natural world we are a part of. I want this image to inspire a longing to reconnect with our land and to treat ourselves and each other as equal beings of this universe, allowed to live freely.'
